Crewe’s vinyl buyers have one dedicated home in the town centre, and it sits under the roof of the Market Hall on Earle Street. Vinyl Destination is the only record shop in the town, a compact independent unit run by people who buy the stock themselves and enjoy talking about it, and it has become a fixture for collectors across this part of south Cheshire.
Background / History
The shop opened inside Crewe Market Hall at midday on Wednesday 20 March 2024, launched by Chris Moloney-Ridsale, a long-standing market trader, and his wife Gem. The idea behind it was simple enough: give Crewe a proper record shop again. It caught on quickly, and in August 2025 the couple moved across the hall into a corner unit on the Heritage Side of the building, directly opposite their original pitch and next door to Bailey’s Wine and Deli. That side of the market keeps the older character of the place, with timber detailing, tall shutters and a proper door to walk through rather than an open-fronted stall. The additional room let Chris and Gem refine the range, open out the layout and give the collection more space to breathe.
What You’ll Find
The racks cover vintage, retro and modern music, with second-hand records sitting alongside brand new pressings. Rock, soul, indie, pop and funk form the backbone of the stock, and it turns over often enough that regulars call in most weeks to see what has landed. Beyond the records there are music t-shirts, tote bags, printed artwork, key rings, stickers and vinyl cleaning kits, which makes the shop a useful stop for presents as well as for your own collection. A dedicated listening booth was one of the gains of the move, and customers are actively encouraged to try a record before buying it, which takes much of the guesswork out of the second-hand crates.
Experience / Atmosphere
Browsing is unhurried here. The unit is small enough that you are never far from someone who can answer a question, and Chris is usually behind the counter, happy to point you towards something you had not considered or to dig out a title from the new arrivals. Because the shop sits inside a busy market hall alongside food traders and a bar, a visit tends to stretch out longer than planned, and it draws in curious passers-by as readily as committed collectors. The market also hosts record fairs through the year, which has helped build a genuine vinyl community around the town. Trading runs Wednesday through to Sunday.
