Just up from the seafront on Cromer’s West Street, Another Planet is the kind of shop that turns a seaside wander into a proper dig. Rock posters fill the walls and there is usually something good on the speakers. Whether you collect seriously or simply fancy a browse after a walk on the pier, it is an easy place to lose half an hour.
Background / History
Another Planet opened in February 2023, started by two friends who between them had spent more than 40 years flicking through crates. Co-founder Marc brought over three decades in the record trade, and the shop launched as a pop-up due to run until that September, with hopes of staying on if Cromer took to it. The town clearly did. When it opened it was Cromer’s only high street record shop, and more than three years later the racks are still being filled week after week. In 2026 it was picked out in Muddy Stilettos’ guide to Norfolk’s must-visit record shops, and an i newspaper Cromer minibreak guide named it among the writer’s favourite places in town to rummage.
What You’ll Find
The stock mixes new and second-hand vinyl with a deep selection of CDs, plus music T-shirts, vintage collectables and other memorabilia. Records are filed into clearly labelled sections such as Rock + Pop, Heavy Rock + Metal and Punk/New Wave/Indie, with soul, funk and plenty of classic sixties and seventies titles waiting further along. CDs sit in long clear racks, there is a shelf of DVDs, and a board of button badges, vintage ones included, is hard to pass without picking one up. Stock turns over often, and prices for new and used records are consistently fair.
Experience / Atmosphere
Inside, dark grey walls carry framed gig posters and big prints of Hendrix, Queen and Pink Floyd, while strings of fairy lights run along the display shelves above the wooden crates. It feels like a music fan’s den rather than a showroom, with a slightly offbeat character that suits the name. Music is always playing, and conversation comes easily, whether you are hunting for a particular pressing, after a recommendation or just want to talk about what you have found. The friendly row of independents along West Street makes it easy to fold into a day out.
