Halfway down Bell Alley, a narrow brick passage in the centre of Leighton Buzzard, a barred window with “We Buy Records” painted across the glass marks the entrance to GAZZA Records. It is a small, unpolished, deeply personal shop where second-hand vinyl is the whole point, and where punk and reggae sit at the heart of everything on the racks.
Background / History
GAZZA Records is the work of Gary Ison, better known around town as Gazza, who opened the doors at 11 Bell Alley on Friday 7 February 2020. The timing could hardly have been tougher: within weeks the country was in lockdown, and the shop spent seven of its first twelve months unable to trade. It came through regardless, and Gary used that first year to branch out into gig promotion, working with The Crooked Crow Bar in the town to put on live music. That side of the business has grown alongside the shop, which now calls itself a record shack and promotions company. In February 2025 the shop marked five years in Bell Alley with an anniversary night at The Crooked Crow, bringing together three local bands, local DJs and the Sonic Induction Sound System.
What You’ll Find
Everything here is used vinyl, bought in and sold on by Gary himself. Punk and reggae are the specialisms, so expect both to be well represented in their many forms, but the crates range much more widely, covering rock, soul, pop and more from the 1950s through to the 1990s. Stock turns over steadily because the shop buys records as well as selling them, which means regular visits tend to turn up something new. Gary also lists records through the shop’s Discogs store, and GAZZA Records T-shirts hang above the crates for anyone who wants to wear their allegiance. Walls are lined with vintage gig posters, picture sleeves and punk ephemera, which gives a good sense of the shop’s musical loyalties before you have even flicked through a box.

Gary has always been clear that this is a place for crate diggers. It is deliberately rough and ready rather than boutique, a tiny room with space for only a handful of people at once, where wooden crates on the floor reward patience and a willingness to get stuck in. The man behind the counter is very much part of the appeal: knowledgeable, chatty and happy to talk about bands, pressings or the next gig he is putting on. Because the shop is so closely tied to local live music, a visit often doubles as a way of finding out what is happening in Leighton Buzzard’s grassroots scene.
