Glasgow is one of the best cities in the UK for record shopping. Its independent shops are spread across a compact city centre, the Merchant City, the East End, the West End and the Southside, so a single day can take in new releases, deep second-hand crates, dance music specialists and a punk shop opposite the Barrowland. This guide picks out where to start and groups the city’s record shops by area. For the full, always up-to-date list with opening hours and maps, see our page of record shops in Glasgow.

Planning a Glasgow record shop crawl
A city-centre loop on foot
If you only have a few hours, start at Love Music above Queen Street station, head down to Fopp on Union Street and Missing Records on Oswald Street, then cross to Rubadub on Howard Street. From there it is a short walk east to Monorail in the Merchant City and on to Record Fayre on Chisholm Street. Add Assai on Sauchiehall Street at the start or the end, depending on where you arrive.
West End and Southside
The West End pairs well with an afternoon: Mixed Up Records on Otago Lane and Second Line Records on Hyndland Road are close enough to combine, and Strip Joint Records in Finnieston makes an easy evening stop on the way back towards the city centre. On the Southside, Some Great Reward and Otherside are a few doors apart on Pollokshaws Road, so they make a natural pair.
Check opening hours first
Several Glasgow shops close on a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, so Wednesday to Saturday is the safest window for a full crawl, when every shop in this guide is normally open. Each listing in our directory shows the current opening hours, and it is always worth checking before you travel.

For broad second-hand browsing, Missing Records and Mixed Up Records are the obvious places to dig. If you are new to buying second-hand, our beginner’s guide to crate-digging is a useful primer.
