Reviews
First off, the music as already described in a previous review, is far too loud and I struggled to concentrate throughout. Secondly, he was smoking in the shop and the place was very untidy and made no sense. But the main issue I had, was that nothing was priced. The owner stated that a price would be made at the end once I’d decided. That’s all well and good but when I shop 12”singles I expect them to be priced individually or a blanket £1/2/3 each etc. That is industry standard. Even charity shops have prices and that will then help me decide if I actually want to part with a decent amount of money or not. So after spending 20 minutes trying to work out what I’d like to buy in a disorganised corner that resembled a bargain bin, the owner then spent 5 minutes working out market prices when I took them to the till. Which came in way over my small budget of what I thought was cheap second hand 12” singles. My argument is, if you don’t actually bother to price your records, you waste both my time and your own, leading to no sale. Do you run a record shop or a living room market for your own amusement? Smoking rothmans and wearing a suit doesn’t make you a dealer if you’re not going to botherto actually price your goods. Not very professional. (Review edited honestly following below reply from owner - initial review more constructive and polite)
Pounced on by staff on entering store determined not to let me browse, seemed desperate for a sale. Asking me my preferred music genre ♂️ then reluctantly saying rock and blues hoping they’d back off , was never going to happen so I asked do they have any ‘Them’ records currently in stock reply was we’ve never heard of the band and asked me to spell ‘THEM’ Jesus Christ if you ain’t even got the knowledge of Van Morrison’s first band what are you doing running a record store ? Idiots won’t be going back
We come here every year to Devon, This is Fabulous shop and very very kind man (aka The Cookie Monster) he always offers you a drink and your choice of music (as long as it’s not ABBA or Springsteen ) me personally don’t mind them but he’s not to Keane! Definitely worth a check if you love your vinyls, and he doesn’t poo poo compilation albums and your choice of music unlike Top Hat from the other side of town. Keep up the good work
Take your ear plugs with you. Music was extremely loud(music which was also not to my taste) which meant I couldn't have a good browse. I like and listen to loud music but when I am in a shop I prefer a more relaxed approach.
Proper record shop, always good vibes. Decent selection of vintage hifi gear and guitars etc available too.
