Saw Andy Bell performing an acoustic set last night in the store. Brilliantly organised event and what a special record shop. Will definitely be heading back to spend some more time here.
First time visiting this vinyl store. It was late Saturday morning and the atmosphere was fairly busy but welcoming. They didn't have the Record Store Day release I was hoping to purchase, but I was impressed with the organisation.
Had to travel to Coventry earlier this week (for my son to sit an exam) and found myself with a couple of hours to spare. Popped into "Just Dropped In" to see what they had in the way of 50s/60s originals without any real expectations of what to expect. Well...where to start with this absolute gem of a record store?!?! It is probably as close to perfection as Revolver, Otis Blue, Never Mind The Bo**ocks, or The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill...depending on your musical palate. Firstly, it's a lovely large, bright space in complete contrast to the average, somewhat cluttered and claustrophobic feel of most record shops carrying the kind of 2nd hand stuff that I collect. But "Just Dropped In" doesn't just stock 2nd hand; in fact, it strikes the perfect balance between new and old, catering for brand new music, classic limited edition reissues, and a very healthy selection of well preserved originals up to 70 years old! Add into the mix Gary and Allun, two top blokes who are completely down to earth with fabulous knowledge and a burning passion for what they do. Even from one visit I can see that they've created not just a great record shop but a real vinyl community. On the afternoon that I dropped in they were preparing for one of their regular sold-out evening concerts (there is a good-sized stage, professional pa system etc) in which 100 or so music fans get to enjoy great live music in an intimate and very special venue. Shops like this (and there aren't many!) are the lifeblood of real music in the UK and should be cherished. The effort and commitment that goes into creating and maintaining such a comprehensive and perfectly catalogued inventory whilst also arranging launch events and live gigs is more than just commendable. It is inspirational. "Just Dropped In" cannot be recommended highly enough whatever your taste in music.
Lovely little shop with a good variety of new and used vinyl. T-shirts also available. Friendly, helpful staff. Will hopefully get back for a longer visit.
We visited recently and spent £10 for 10 really good records. plenty of choice and lovely staff. A true little gem of a place
