I had a lovely time in 586 on Friday afternoon. Was nice to meet Tony who's very friendly and have a nice chat. I managed to find some brilliant 80s/90s US house music gems and there's plenty of new stuff too. I event got offered a hot drink which was very welcome. If you're in the North East and you're looking for a wide range of music from rock to techno and a friendly welcome - look no further. I can't wait to return!
Update 2023. Crate diggers heaven, awesome record shop, you can listen before you buy on most items, very nice and knowledgeable owner Tony. Tonnes of boxes to go through at £1-2!! New releases, classics and rarities. Free parking at the back. Essential visit if anywhere nearby.
From the moment I nervously trotted into 586 records I knew it was the place for me. A large, butch, unit of a man stood behind the counter; he reminded me of a pleasant version of Bennett from the Movie Commando, even had the chain-mail vest. This was Tony. Tony’s knowledge of music is fantastic, as good as anyone you’ll ever meet. This knowledge mainly comes from his time as a roadie for the Village People, and the short spell he spent as Elvis’ blue suede shoe shiner. I recommend 586 Records, 5 stars.
Tony is the go to guy when I'm in Newcastle for Beat's N' Treats! He never lets the side down. Extensive choice of vinyl records of all styles & genres,New & Used but not abused stock,if you time your visit right the great wax off clearance may be on with bargains galore. Place has multiple listening decks and a brew is often forthcoming while you dig the crates!!
The only record shop i tend to use these days, despite no longer living in Newcastle. Really well chosen new stuff. AMAZING selection of 2nd hand! Antony who runs the shop is really knowledgeable too, which is very useful.
